Peter started gardening at a very young age on his father’s allotment of land from the local council.  The duties of maintenance, appreciation of the growth cycle, and very importantly, an aesthetic awareness were planted in him.  His father often grew flowers among the vegetables for feeding the family.

Many work life experiences were gained before Peter left school as he had the traditional paper route, bread delivery route, milk delivery route and meat delivery route.  He completed his apprenticeship as a butcher before age fourteen.

His love affair with the navy commenced from age 8 up until he completed his tour of duty at age 20 as a Chief Petty Officer.  Living in cramped naval quarters he gained experience in living in close quarters with people, learning how to read and adapt to people, learning the responsibilities of self-discipline.  Traveling around the world four times by the age of 16, helped to increase his awareness and exposure to cultures, tastes and people with different styles to his own.

At age 32, Peter went to University and gained a BA ed. (University of South Australia) B.A. Fine Arts and an M.A. in Fine Arts.

In his drive to become “An Interesting Old Man” he has worked and has experience in the following fields in the following sequence:

  • Butcher
  • Cabin Boy
  • Steward
  • Naval Officer
  • Fire Fighter
  • Pilot Rescue on the Concorde

The ongoing quest to find new things, to be challenged by, will never end.  Hopefully.  Peter feels his greatest strength is in “I know what I don’t know and I know where to go to find out.”
